Educational Program
The educational Program, managed through Sawa's Educational Department and directed by the Educational Department Officer, develops outreach programs throughout the Palestinian community to increase the awareness on sex education and sexual violence, advocate mutual honesty and respect between the two sexes, highlight prevention techniques, and inform participants about services available through the Sawa hotline.
Sawa's outreach program extends not only to schools but also to women and youth associations and organizations alongside with community centers which lobby for the development of the community.
Sawa's main mean of implementing its program is through workshops that are especially designed to answer the needs of the individuals in the Palestinian Society according to the category they fall under. The mentioned workshops are usually designed in close coordination with the beneficiary partner that Sawa intends to present its workshop to its target group and according to their priority in our area of specialty.
Educational Program Training: Sawa conducts one training course under the Educational Program every year, however, there are efforts being exerted towards having more the one training course for the educational program per year in order to exceed the volunteer base at the mentioned program and thus enabling Sawa to expand its educational services in order to give the chance to more people from the different areas to benefit from the Educational Program.
The EDO is the responsible person for carrying out the training program yet under the direct and close supervision of the Managing Director. The training also needs to have a co-trainer who is a male for gender purposes especially that the trainees deal with some topics that might be considered to be difficult to talk about with someone from a different sex. Besides the fact that part of the training has to tackle the issue of exposure to the other sex and get to know how to better handle.
Every training course lasts for three months (around 80 hours) and targets 15 participants (male & female) who once completing the requirement of the course become members of Sawa's volunteers' forum. Usually the total number of participants at the training course commit to volunteering at Sawa for the designated volunteering of four hours a week, a period of one year.
The EDO keeps track of the volunteers' work through monitoring their tasks delivery at workshops, reports forwarded by the volunteers themselves on the work they have been doing, volunteers' counseling sessions and forum meetings. Worth noting, at this stance, that EP volunteers receive individual and group counseling by Sawa's counselor.
